Cardiac physical therapy and cardiac rehab: how they differ.
Nurtura provides physical therapy. We are not a cardiac rehabilitation program, and we work alongside your cardiologist and any cardiac rehab program you attend.
How they differ.
What is cardiac functional recovery?
Physical therapy after a heart event or heart surgery that rebuilds strength, endurance, walking, balance, transfers, stairs and confidence with activity, so you can get back to everyday life. Your cardiologist's guidance sets the boundaries; we work within them.
How is this different from cardiac rehab?
Cardiac rehabilitation is a medically supervised program run by a hospital or clinic. Nurtura provides physical therapy focused on how you move in daily life, and we work alongside your cardiologist and any cardiac rehab program you attend, never in place of them.
What if I can't get to cardiac rehab?
Call us. A Nurtura Onboarding Specialist will connect within a day to talk through your situation, and we coordinate with your cardiologist. Physical therapy can rebuild strength and endurance through in-home and virtual visits; it doesn't replace a medically supervised cardiac rehab program.
Does Medicare cover it?
Yes, for eligible patients. Nurtura is in-network with Medicare Part B, and Medicare Part B covers both in-home and virtual visits. Paying privately? Call us at (408) 372-6048 for options.
How visits workIn-home and virtual visits: in person in San Mateo, Santa Clara and Alameda counties, by secure video anywhere in California. We set your mix of in-home and virtual visits at your initial evaluation, and virtual visits keep your care going between in-home visits.
No prescription needed to start. In California, you can start PT without a referral. We coordinate with your physician on your care plan and get their sign-off when Medicare requires it.
