Common questions.
Can physical therapy help neck pain from desk work?
It can, for many people. We treat the pain and the habits behind it: neck and upper-back mobility, shoulder-blade and deep neck strength, and your posture and desk setup. With a virtual visit, your therapist can see your real workspace.
How is this different from a massage or a chiropractor?
A physical therapist evaluates how your neck, upper back and shoulders move. Then we build an exercise-based plan for mobility, strength, posture and desk setup, with a home program you can keep up on your own. We coordinate with your physician and your other providers when that helps your care.
Are visits in-home or virtual?
Both. In San Mateo, Santa Clara and Alameda counties, care combines in-home and virtual visits; everywhere else in California, visits are by secure video. Your physical therapist decides the mix at your initial evaluation, and virtual visits keep your care continuous between in-home visits.
Do I need a prescription or referral to start physical therapy?
No. In California you can start physical therapy without a referral. We coordinate with your physician on your care plan, and if you're on Medicare, we get your physician's sign-off on the plan of care as Medicare requires.
